  • Ghee - 1 tsp
  • Apple (finely chopped) - 1
  • Skim Milk - 500 ml
  • Saffron Strands - 8-10
  • Crushed Cardamom - 1 tsp
  • Jaggery or honey- ¼ cup
  • Chopped Pistachios - 2 tbsp

Instructions

  • Heat ghee in a pot and then add the finely chopped apples.
  • Cook over medium heat for 3-4 minutes until slightly tender, then mix in quinoa, milk, saffron, and cardamom.
  • Heat it until it reaches a boiling point, and then let it simmer for 35-40 minutes until the milk reduces by approximately one-third and the kheer becomes thicker.
  • If you prefer your kheer to be thicker, you have the option to simmer it for a longer period of time.
  • Mix in jaggery or honey and stir until fully incorporated. Allow to cool down, then place in the refrigerator for about an hour.
  • Top with chopped pistachios and apple slices before serving cold.

4. Coconut and Nuts Barfi

This Indian sweet is a nutritious option that fits well into your healthy desserts for weight loss plan, thanks to its wholesome ingredients.

Ingredients

  • Grated Coconut - 1.5 cups
  • Mixed Nuts (cashews, almonds, walnuts, pistachios, pumpkin seeds, melon seeds, chironji Roasted) - 1.5 cups (chopped or whole)
  • Grated Mawa/Khoya - 1.5 cups
  • Raw Brown Sugar or Jaggery - 1.25 cups
  • Water - 1.5 cups

Instructions

  • Prepare a thaali to set the fudge (paak) by applying a little ghee on the thali surface and keeping it aside.
  • Put water and sugar in a pan over medium heat. Cook for 10 to 15 minutes or until it is quite thick and about ready to crystallise once more.
  • Add the maws and khoya now and stir well. No lumps should be present.
  • We required a very thick consistency of sugar syrup because adding mawa at the same time will thin it out.
  • Reduce the heat to very low and rapidly add the coconut, almonds, cardamom powder, black pepper powder, and fennel seeds (if using). Mix thoroughly and pour the mixture onto the greased thali.
  • Spread the mixture out evenly, then let it cool before refrigerating it for 1 hour.
  • The coconut and mixed nuts fudge is all set to be sliced into the desired shape. Indian dessert made with coconut, mixed nuts, and fennel flavor.

Can I Eat Dessert And Still Lose Weight?

Yes, you can eat dessert and still lose weight! The key is to choose healthier options and practice moderation. When you manage your sweet cravings with nutritious desserts, you can enjoy a treat without sabotaging your weight loss goals.

One way to do this is by opting for desserts that are lower in sugar and calories. For example, consider fruit-based desserts like fruit salad, yoghurt with berries, or baked apples. These options provide natural sweetness along with vitamins and fibre, making them more satisfying than sugary treats.

Minimising portion sizes is another tactic. Instead of having a large piece of cake or a big bowl of ice cream, enjoy a small serving. In this manner, you can indulge your sweet taste without going overboard. Also, consider making your own desserts at home, where you can control the ingredients. Use whole grains or nut flour in place of refined flour, and replace refined sugar with healthier options like honey or maple syrup.

Mindful eating holds equal importance. Enjoy each bite of the dessert and be mindful of the emotions it evokes within you. This may aid in avoiding senseless nibbling and excessive consumption. Keep in mind, that balance is key. Having dessert as part of a healthy eating plan can help you stay motivated and fulfilled, making it easier to stick with your weight loss plans.

Which Sweet Is Best For Weight Loss? Or Which Dessert Has The Least Calories?

When it comes to satisfying your sweet tooth while trying to lose weight, some sweets stand out as healthier choices. One of the best options is dark chocolate. Unlike milk chocolate, dark chocolate has a higher cocoa content and lower sugar levels. It also contains antioxidants and can help satisfy cravings with just a small piece, so you’re less likely to overindulge.

Another great choice is fruit-based desserts. Fresh fruits like berries, apples, and oranges are naturally sweet and packed with fibre, vitamins, and minerals. You can enjoy them as a snack or incorporate them into yoghurt, smoothies, or fruit salads. For example, a bowl of Greek yoghurt topped with fresh fruits and a sprinkle of nuts can be a delicious and healthy dessert.

If you’re looking for something more indulgent, consider making energy balls from oats, nuts, and a touch of honey or dates. These no-bake treats are nutritious and provide a good balance of healthy fats, fibre, and protein, making them satisfying without excessive calories.

Lastly, homemade desserts like chia seed pudding or oatmeal cookies made with whole ingredients can also be smart choices. The best sweet for weight loss is one that combines nutrition and enjoyment, helping you stay on track while satisfying your cravings.

Dietitian’s Recommendation

As a dietitian, I recommend incorporating healthy desserts into a weight loss plan by focusing on portion control and nutrient density. Opt for desserts made with whole ingredients, such as fruits, nuts, and whole grains.

For example, a fruit salad topped with Greek yoghurt or a small piece of dark chocolate can satisfy your sweet cravings without excessive calories. Choosing desserts high in fibre, like chia pudding or oatmeal cookies, helps keep you full longer. Additionally, reducing added sugars by using natural sweeteners, like honey or maple syrup, can make desserts more nutritious. Remember, moderation is key to enjoying desserts while losing weight.

By focusing on nutrient-dense ingredients, controlling portion sizes, and practising mindful eating, you can satisfy your sweet tooth while still staying on track. The key is to enjoy desserts in a way that complements your overall dietary and health goals.

These healthy desserts for weight loss, combined with an understanding of how to balance cravings, will allow you to indulge in the occasional sweet treat without guilt or compromise. Whether you’re craving something creamy, fruity, or chocolaty, there are plenty of ways to enjoy desserts while losing weight, ensuring your journey to a healthier lifestyle remains delicious and enjoyable.

FAQs

1. Are sugar substitutes safe for weight loss desserts?
Yes, sugar substitutes like stevia and erythritol are safe for making weight loss desserts. They can make your treats sweet without adding extra calories. But remember to use them in small amounts because some people might get a tummy ache from certain substitutes. Always look at the labels to check for any extra ingredients.

2. Is it better to avoid desserts entirely?
You don’t have to skip desserts completely to lose weight! Not having any treats can make you want them more and might lead to overeating later. Instead, try to find a balance. While still trying to lose weight, indulge in healthy treats occasionally to sate your sweet needs. Occasionally, indulging in a treat can help you maintain your balanced diet.

3. What is the role of fibre in dessert choices?
Fibre is really helpful when choosing desserts for weight loss. Desserts that have a lot of fibre, like those made with fruits or whole grains, can keep you feeling full longer and help control your blood sugar. This means you might not snack as much later on. Including fibre in your desserts makes them more filling and good for you!

4. Are fruit-based desserts good for weight loss?
Absolutely! Fruit-based desserts are great for losing weight. They are naturally sweet, low in calories, and full of vitamins and fibre. Treats like fruit salads or baked apples can satisfy your sweet tooth while giving you important nutrients. The fibre in fruits also helps you feel full, making them a smart choice for dessert!
